HDMI – High Def (Requires HDCP to play Bluray).
Component – High Def.
Composite AV – Low Def and Sound.
Digital Audio (TOSLink) – Digital Sound.
If it is 6 years old then it may not be HDCP compliant, which means blu-ray movies will not play via HDMI. It will likely have component though, which is almost as good a quality (though the cables are more expensive).
If you aren’t using HDMI, or want to connect sound to an amplifier then if you have optical digital audio in, then use the TOSlink, otherwise use the AV cables sound (red and white).
