I just bought a 26′ samsung LNT2653 lcd hdtv, and i have a question about it regarding with the ps3?
I have learned that al lcd tvs have a fixed pixel count at 720p. When i hooked the ps3 to the tv via hdmi and set the video settings, it said that the system could output a maximum resolution of 1080i. Does this mean that any 1080i source material like blue-ray discs will be downscaled to 720p, or does my television actually have the capabilty to output 1080i? So if it does downscale to 720p, won’t it be better to just set the video setting at 720p since it is progressive which is better than interlace(1080″i”)? So kinda off topic. For any people who have downloaded the lastest update for the ps3 which can upscale games and dvds, what would the best setting be?(Upscale:Normal,Full,Off, or Smooth:On, Off.) And at what resoultion would be best for playing ps1 and ps2 games.(1080i, 720p, or their native resolution at 480p?

I don’t really play my old PS games on my new PS3 so i cannot help you there. But as far as HDTV goes the higher # is better. The best is 1080p, then 1080i, then 720p,I and last is 480p,I. The difference between is minimal between 1080p and I but there is a difference and it gets more pronounced as you go down in #. 1080i is better then 720p to answer you question there.
The tv will only display in 720p if that is its max setting. Your TV manual should clearly say what your max output is, if you set the PS3 to a setting that does not work it will give you a black screen. Oh, and BTW not all LCD’s have a fixed res of 720, i have one that is 1080i and one that is 1080p.
I would always choose the highest reseloution you can for gaming as if you do not there is really no point in doing it at 480 as you will see little difference. I would use the max upscaling setting and smooth on to get the best results for movies too.
One more thing, make sure you use HDMI cables, composite cables are not as good as HDMI. HDMI provides the best picture and also does audio as well.
LCD TV’s can have up to 1080p resolution just like any other High Def TV, but anyways, yes, allot of 720p TV’s can actually support 1080i (even if the manual says it can’t), so it’s very possible. And if you’re going for this resolution, make sure you’re using composite cables.
Upscale:full
Smooth:On
you should see a big difference in playing ps1 or ps2 games and in watching blu ray discs.
also, make sure to turn on the RGB settings also for even better coloration.
All 720p TV can support 1080i because 1080i is inferior to 720p. The numbers refer to the number of vertical display lines and the p refers to progressive and i refers to interlaced. 720p means 720 lines in progressive mode (that means all 720 vertical lines are display at once). 1080i means 1080 lines are displayed interlaced (Think 1080 vertical lines divided into even and odd lines. Odd and even lines are displayed alternating back and forth. When odd lines are displayed, even lines are off, and when even lines are on, odd lines are off. So, all you’re seeing is 540 lines at once.).
For games, movies, etc, the best resolution is 720p. But you can leave it at 1080i. It’s really tough to tell the difference between 720p and 1080i. That’s why you have some people saying 1080i looks better, and others saying 720p is better. Use whatever resolution you think looks best.
Don’t bother with 480p. It’s a waste of the HD TV to use it at that resolution. 480p is enhanced definition.
your LN-T2653 TV can display a max resolution of 720p.
1080i is better than 720p
1080p is better than 1080i
to connect blue ray to this tv is a waste.
u will get display at 720p
hope that helps
and as far of the other post, there’s some misleading information.
When you talk tv resolution you are talking native resolution, youcan get an AV receiver or a good time to up scale to the native resolution.
for anything over 480i u should use component cables not composite. HDMI is better and most of the incompatabilities between vendors have been resolved for HDMI
stay away from DVI if you can help it.
good luck!
