Despite some of the bizarre answers here, 63% of the population prefer plasma televisions. This is because plasma is the best option.

I think you mean 'burn-in'...not burn-outs! And don't worry about either! Newer Plasma TVs have all but done away with burn-in problems thanks to newer gases, pixel orbiting technology and screen savers!

Plasma TVs have the highest "native" contrast ratios(40,000:1), giving them the blackest blacks and most vivid and rich looking colors! They also have the fastest response times(.001ms) and fastest refresh rates(600hz). Making them the best at producing the sharpest and smoothest motion. Perfect for fast motion content like sports, movies & gaming! Plasma TV's are also more affordable.

More info on LCD and Plasma TV's:

If i was you, i would get the Panasonic Plasma(TC-P42G10). That's one of the best Plasma TVs available right now! Panasonic's also have the lowest failure rate of any brand of HDTV. Sony's are becoming more and more unreliable!

if your view room tends to be dark get the plasma, if its a well lit room with bright windows at your back get LCD. plasma screens are glossy and will reflect light in the screen. lcds are getting close to plasma quality everyday. look at contrast rations and refresh rates. there are many things to consider when choosing and everyone has an opinion. do the research not only for picture quality but cost as well, avoid paying for bells and whistles you don't need. lcds are capable of burn in as well but both types are capable of clearing them self up as well, burn in was solved 5 yrs ago, here are some educating links

between the bravia and the Panasonic i would go with the Panasonic. Sony's have gone down hill in my opinion ever since they changed the name from trinitron to bravia

I had the same problem but in the end chose a plasma. It's true that plasma does have burn in so you need to be careful with the image you leave on for long periods of time. But the burn in doesn't last long, I just turn it off if I leave or go to another room. But LCDs can be damaged more than a plasma with the crystal display. If one of those crystals are struck hard enough you will have a dead pixel and this will stay on the tv for the duration.
