I am looking to purchase a new television and should it be LCD or Plasma?

panasonic lcd tv
smitino asked:

I am looking to buy a new television and I have mixed reviews on buying a plasma TV or LCD. I am comparing the sony Bravia 42″ LCD and the Panasonic Plasma 42″G10 range. I have heard about burn outs with plasma and this is my main concern as plasma seems to have a better picture. Which is the best option or is there a better option?

I am looking at the same sorta thing at the moment, but looking at the sony and pioneer. There is SO much complicated stuff, so you’re better off going into a shop and talking to a sales guy. Good luck… and email me what you find out!!

  • get the lcd plasma tv’s burn like the screen

I have a plasma in the family room and a LCD in the bedroom and we ALWAYS watch tv in the bedroom because the plasma tv is so ‘touchy’. If I need to pause my DVR and go do something for a few minutes, I can’t do that with the Plasma because Lord knows it doesn’t take long for an image to burn itself to the screen. Also, we had to hook up our gaming consoles to the LCD tv because the ‘graphics’ from the games will mess up the screen on plasmas. I’d go with the LCD!

get an LCD cause plasma TV’s burn out. Also make sure it’s 1080 not 720 if you want a more clear picture.

  • Dan:

i hear that LCD’s are better for the enviroment, if, that is, you really care

  • if you can, hold on for a bit, do you use sky ?? if you do then sky are bringing out 3d tv;s this year, this is why tvs are dropping in price as 3d is the next generation of viewing, google sky 3d and take a look, as i said it may be worth the wait,
    good luck,

  • I had the same problem but in the end chose a plasma. It’s true that plasma does have burn in so you need to be careful with the image you leave on for long periods of time. But the burn in doesn’t last long, I just turn it off if I leave or go to another room. But LCDs can be damaged more than a plasma with the crystal display. If one of those crystals are struck hard enough you will have a dead pixel and this will stay on the tv for the duration.

  • if your view room tends to be dark get the plasma, if its a well lit room with bright windows at your back get LCD. plasma screens are glossy and will reflect light in the screen. lcds are getting close to plasma quality everyday. look at contrast rations and refresh rates. there are many things to consider when choosing and everyone has an opinion. do the research not only for picture quality but cost as well, avoid paying for bells and whistles you don’t need. lcds are capable of burn in as well but both types are capable of clearing them self up as well, burn in was solved 5 yrs ago, here are some educating links

between the bravia and the Panasonic i would go with the Panasonic. Sony’s have gone down hill in my opinion ever since they changed the name from trinitron to bravia

  • I think you mean ‘burn-in’…not burn-outs! And don’t worry about either! Newer Plasma TVs have all but done away with burn-in problems thanks to newer gases, pixel orbiting technology and screen savers!

Plasma TVs have the highest “native” contrast ratios(40,000:1), giving them the blackest blacks and most vivid and rich looking colors! They also have the fastest response times(.001ms) and fastest refresh rates(600hz). Making them the best at producing the sharpest and smoothest motion. Perfect for fast motion content like sports, movies & gaming! Plasma TV’s are also more affordable.

More info on LCD and Plasma TV’s:

If i was you, i would get the Panasonic Plasma(TC-P42G10). That’s one of the best Plasma TVs available right now! Panasonic’s also have the lowest failure rate of any brand of HDTV. Sony’s are becoming more and more unreliable!

  • Acka:

    Plasma every time

  • Despite some of the bizarre answers here, 63% of the population prefer plasma televisions. This is because plasma is the best option.
