Can’t get my tv to play thru surround sound unit, please help?

I bought a RCA L32hd31r lcd tv and a Panasonic sc pt770 home theater unit. After several tries to get it to work, I cannot get the home theater to play the tv signal or my xbox 360. I have called both support numbers but have no answers. I have tryed everything, am almost to the point of returning them both.
